in the uppermost portion of Suisun Valley

After tasting and seeing the quality of the grapes coming in from other historically proven and exclusively expensive vineyards in Napa, Steve realized that the grapes grown on the hillside neighboring our walnut orchard had similar charactaristics.  So a "test" project was begun.
Old vines, combination of head pruned and cordon trellis system is the  "old California sprawl" growing style, no one is sure what clone it is.
Small production of tiny bunches and itty bitty grapes hang loose like chandeliers.
Cherry picked over 3 consequetive days and each time that day's pick was added to the cold soak already started in the Redoux fermenting vat. 
Very slow fermentation, almost thought it was going to get stuck but it kept inching along - very low sulfur additions -
18 months in 100% new Gamba oak.
A 125 case project.

Same vineyard, same application of fermentation techniques.
This vintage and fermentation proved that this is a special vineyard and that we can make a serious wine from its grapes verifying that the 2007 vintage was not a "fluke".
Cabernet Sauvignon scheduled for bottling in Fall of 2010.
60% new Gamba / 40% neutral.
A 300 case project.
